This morning, I slept in until 5:30 AM. I woke up and made my way to the kitchen and made a monster smoothie while I preheated the car. This morning, I met Lynn to run at 6:00 AM, before we met up with the main group. We met up with the main group at 6:30ish AM, then an even larger group at 7:00 AM.
When I woke up, it was 28 degrees outside. Now, I am certain that if you live in Michigan or North Dakota, this is not even remotely frigid. In Tennessee, however, we were miserably cold. I made it 10 miles, before I was unable to talk to my running companions because my lips were numb. Seriously, I was slurring my words like a drunk.
At mile 11, I threw in the towel and admitted to everyone that I was not dressed warmly enough and headed back to my car. NOW, when I got to my car in the park, my friend Genie was parallel parked behind me and she asked me to join in just two miles longer. Her run was for a friend who was getting married. They were running 5 miles to a destination breakfast before the wedding tonight. They had race numbers printed with the date of the wedding and everything. Of course, I crashed the run and added on another couple of miles, because on Saturdays, I feel guilty if I get in less than 13 miles. I got in all the run, and then shivered every bit of the way home. I am not quite warmed yet, though I am sitting in front of the space heater and a fire and wearing my Uggs. Clearly, this means I was seriously chilled. The last time I was this cold, I had jumped into the Pacific Ocean for reasons that are still unknown to me. No need to talk about that.
Anyway, at home I read many books to Ivan and had a nice shower, before working on my Christmas knitting project and later finding another chili-pepper ornament down the pants leg of Ivan's footie pajamas. Elliott left for a bike ride and then returned. We had lasagna for dinner and enjoyed the fire while I watched Dr Faustus. It is 'sell-your-soul-to-the -devil week on American Movie Classics (AMC). This is a great version that stars both Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton during their first marriage. I watched The Picture of Dorian Gray this week, and a bit of Heaven Can Wait, though it never really grabs me. Warren Beatty is not my favorite, though I like Splendor in the Grass.
Anyway, all this to say, that I ran this morning and have pleasantly wasted the rest of my day on the couch with my knitting and some DVRed movies.
Pictures are from my mantle. I photographed it so that I can send it off to my sister-in-law, but the pictures are of all the Johns. My son is JES IV, and the other pics are of JES, Sr., JES, Jr., and JES III. All are great!!!
