I feel that I have no choice but to recommend this fabulous publication. Nutrition Action Health Letter is completely devoted to the newest research in the area of health, food, exercise, weight loss and exercise. I feel that their research is presented in a readable format, it is usually only about ten pages long, and it is aimed at our modern lifestyle of traveling, grocery shopping and sedentary jobs.
For instance, last month Nutrition Action presented menus from Panera and au bon pain, where you can actually find a lot of healthy food. They explained how to pull calories and sodium content down with better choices, and I felt like I learned a lot. I always thought that au bon pain, was just a wash if you were stuck in an airport. It is, however, probably your best bet, unless you can find a Wolfgang Puck.
Now, this month, there is a fabulous quiz from which I have learned ever so much. My favorite two multiple choice questions were:
Since 1970, U.S. cheese consumption has:
- dropped by 50%
- dropped by 25%
- stayed the same
- doubled
- tripled
We are eating more now that in 1970 of all but one of these. Which one?
- beef
- flour
- cooking and salad oils
- sugar and corn syrup
answer to cheese consumption is TRIPLED!!!!
answer to the second question is beef. Oil consumption has tripled, flour is up by 25%, and sweeteners have risen by 14%. Beef has dropped by 22 percent, and now we eat twice as much chicken.
Fascinating right?? The magazine is great, and I think my subscription was $9.99 for the year.
